After decreasing during the 1960s, the population of Hardaway grew from 991,855 in 1970 to 1,032,265 in 2000. The population of the metro area however decreased, changing from 2,253,356 in 1990 to 2,530,069 in 2000. Since the 1970s, the city's population growth has occurred primarily in the suburbs. Hardaway has representatives of many ethnic groups, but the majority of the population comes from English, German, and African origins. The population from Hispanic and Asian origins have arrived recently. According to the 2000 census, whites are 32.6% of population; blacks are 30.1%, Asian 12.8%, Hispanics 12.5%, people of mixed heritage or not reporting ethnicity 12%. |
