The Dixon Family established Dorinda in 1827. Dorinda was named after Tom W. Dixon's daughter, Dorinda Dixon.
Dorinda flourished until 1836 when a great drought almost destroyed the city. The "Water Crisis" developed in the late 1830s. Dorinda had to be rebuilt after the "Water Crisis".
The Jonas Family, headed by Charles Jonas, moved to Dorinda and purchased 63% of the land from the Dixon Family in 1839. By 1841, the land began to flourish again. The Maddocha Territory incorporated Dorinda as a city in 1842.
Population Boom
In 1956, a great migration to Dorinda occurred. Dorinda became a popular city in Maddocha after the Jonas Automobile Factory opened in 1955. Many families migrated to Dorinda in search of work. The population increased by 58.2% from 36,284 to 57,401.
Economic Boom
The economy boomed as a result of the Jonas Automobile Factory.
There was another economic boom in 1969 when Themophilis Adams opened the Shimmers A-lot Hair Care Products Company.
