Dorinda has had a number of important historical events to occur. Two events stand out in the history of Dorinda.
The first is "The Water Crisis" The next major event was the Jonas-Dixon Feud.
These events are major turning points in the history of Dorinda.
Here is a brief historical timeline:
1827 – Tom Dixon and his family migrate to Maddocha. 1836 – Charles Jonas migrated to Maddocha. 1837 – "The Water Crisis" occurred. 1838 – The Water Crisis Massacre occurred. 1839 – Tom Dixon sold 63% of Dorinda to Charles Jonas. 1841 – Hiram Dixon, Marion Bethurum, and William Dougan opened a steel mill, a clothing shop, a general store, a stable, a stage coach company, and a bank. 1859 – The Jonas-Dixon Feud occurred. 1860 – The Reign of Harvey Jonas and the Revenge Riders. 1898 – Dixon Street, Dixon Court, and T. W. Dixon Road were renamed in honor of the Dixon family. 1943 – Harmon Street COGIC began to flourish after "The Water Crisis". 1948 – Water Crisis Monument was constructed. 1959 – The Angel Pass Monument was constructed. 1965 - The Dorinda Bulls won the Maddocha league championship for the first time. 1972 - Dwight Hitchcock became the first African-American Mayor of Dorinda 1975 - David McArthur (Dorinda native) became the first African-American Mayor of Hardaway. 1980 - The population of Dorinda reached 1,020,156. 1989 - Dorinda was voted the #1 city in Maddocha. 1999 - Dorinda was voted the #1 city in Maddocha
