Cyrus T. Jonas, the sixth child of Charles and Eliza Jonas, was born in Dorinda on May 12, 1839.  He married Anna Jane Grimes.  Lucretia Grimes, was Anna's mother.

James Mertisun and Lucretia Ann Grimes made the trip to Dorinda in 1838.  They were the parents of seven children.  Five of them lived to be adults.  These five children were Columbus Grimes (a schoolteacher), Anna Jane Grimes, Melissa Ann Grimes, Jasper Grimes, and John Grimes. Both of Anna's parents died in Dorinda, Maddocha.

Anna, who was born on Valentine's Day in 1839, came to Colonel William Baugh's home in Dorinda to tutor his children and to help in the home.  The Baugh's land joined the Jonas' land on the south. The two families were close friends.  Anna meet Cyrus Jonas and they were married on November 7, 1856.

Cyrus and Anna lived on the southwest part of his father's land. They farmed and raised cattle, sheep, goats, and hogs. They had two daughters, Lucretia who was born on August 13, 1857, and Ella Carolina who was born on September 3, 1858

Cyrus met Hiram Dixon, the son of Tom Dixon.  Cyrus helped Hiram lobby to get the Dixon family the recognition that it deserved for being the founders of Dorinda. The two men remained friends until 1859.

In 1859, Cyrus Jonas told Hiram Dixon about a business deal to build a steel manufacturing plant. The man that was supposed to be selling a plot of land to Cyrus and Hiram ran off with $500,000 from Cyrus Jonas and $750,000 from Hiram Dixon.

Hiram accused Cyrus of collaborating with the man that had stolen their money.  A big fight began between Hiram and Cyrus. The fight ended with Cyrus being shot dead by Hiram. Hiram was jailed for murder.

Anna was heart-broken to learn of her husband's death. She tried to kill herself, but her brother-in-law, Harvey Jonas, rescued her. Harvey promised Anna that the Hiram would pay for what he had done to Cyrus.

Hiram was acquitted because the shooting was considered justifiable because of self-defense.  This news was too much for Anna. She took her life on February 15, 1860.  The two young girls were sent to live with Ophelia Ferguson, Cyrus' sister.
