Public Schools

Absanie ISD

As of fall, 1999, the district operates 3 high schools, 5 middle schools, 17 elementary schools, 1 alternative education center and 1 cooperative special education campus. All schools are air-conditioned and feature security systems to discourage vandalism and theft. In addition to the school facilities, the district has three administrative facilities, one planetarium, and one football stadiums.

Led by a seven member Board of Trustees, the district is one with a proven track record. The community and staff work as a team to build a strong system. While fiscally conservative, administrators are constantly looking for innovative ways to prepare our students for the 21st century. Support from AISD patrons has always been strong. Citizens realize the importance of a strong public education system to our city. Residents have never defeated a school bond issue. In fact, their support has been impressive. A $156,000,000 dollar issue passed in September of 1996 was supported by a margin of nearly four to one.

Over 15,000 students are currently enrolled in AISD schools in grades K-12. Over 43% of the certified professional staff members have master's degrees, and 1% hold doctorates. The average educator in the district has 11.1 years of teaching experience. At the high school level, that average rises to 12.8 years. Pupil teacher ratios for staff currently stand at 1:18 at the elementary level, 1:19 at the middle school level, and 1:15 at the high school level.

All schools are fully accredited by the Maddocha Education Agency. Middle schools and high schools are also accredited by the Southern Association of Secondary Schools and The Maddocha Association of Colleges and Universities.
