John Madly

When John Madly and wife, Beatrice Madly, came to Maddocha (then a wide-open pace) in 1806, they were following the choice of their second son.  Jerry had chosen the family's route.

John, born about 1772 in Virginia, married in Bourbon County on March 17, 1792.  The family left the Kentucky frontier in 1800 for parts unknown. Six years later, they arrived in Maddocha (then a wide-open pace).

John and Beatrice built a log cabin on the land that they discovered.  They built a farm. They grew vegetables, corn, wheat, cotton, and planted orchards.  Their meat was supplied from sheep, hogs, cattle, fowl, and deer.  Fish and other animals were plentiful.

John died in 1812 from a heart attack. Beatrice died four years later.

John and Beatrice had two sons and a daughter, Jerry, Eliza, and George.

A memorial has been erected in Maddocha City to honor John Madly.
